Earl Vordenberg
Earl Vordenberg
My grandfather Earl H. Vordenberg was born June 1891. The family has been told by Earl's sons that he traveled to Dayton, OH to find his birth mother and he received this picture of her. It was also said that her name was Allender.
Earl was baptized April 17, 1892 as Herman Rudolph Earl Vordenberg. The first two names were from his paternal and maternal grandfathers. So he was adopted sometime between his birth date, June 19, 1891,and the baptismal date above.
Earl Vordenberg was adopted by Fred Vordenberg listed as "adopted son" on the 1900 census. We would love to know for sure if Augusta Allender was Earl's birth mother. Contact almamagis at fuse.net with information

Grandma Allender
We found this photo with a note that said her name was Allender. It is said that Earl Vordenberg found his birth mother in Dayton, OH and got this picture from her. I have found a woman on the 1910 census - A(u)gusta Allender in Dayton. I also found Augusta Allender on the 1880 census living in Indiana with a family named Kitchell. In 1920 Augusta is listed as the wife of Hugh Walsh who was a boarder in her Dayton home on the 1910 census. We would love to know if this is Augusta Allender. Please contact me if you have any information on the Kitchell Family, Hugh Walsh, or Augusta Allener, almamagis at fuse.net

Joseph Tolley Allender 1770-1834
Joseph Tolley Allender 1770-1834
Family history tells us this portrait was passed down through the family to my father and that it is a portrait of Joseph Tolley Allender 1770-1834.

Joseph was a well-known physician in Baltimore's Fells Point who married a Mary Biays. Joseph and Mary had six children: Joseph (1800), Elizabeth Ann (1802), Walter Tolley (1807-1886), James Biays (1809), Margareita (1812) and Charles (1815-1875).

My family tie comes from marriage via Joseph's wife Mary Biays who was the daughter of Colonel Joseph Biays. The Biays and Bowerman (my family) families were closely related from several angles, and it appears that the Allenders in Maryland had a close history and relations with the Bowerman's and Biays' as well.

Joseph was the son of William (1739) and Sophia Allender, grandson of Joshua Allender (d: 1749) and great-grandson of William Allender (d:1698).

Joseph's siblings were: Thomas Foley (1764), Mary, Elizabeth, Walter and William.
