    Notes
    • INFORMATION FROM BOOK - SIGGINS AND RELATED FAMILIES BY EMMA SIGGINS WHITE !Information from book, Siggins and Related Families by Emma Siggins White The Methodist Church in Youngville started in 1806. Families were from Brokenstraw Creek and
were mostly engaged in lumbering and farming. Meetings were held in different homes. Judge William Siggins was among the early settlers. In 1812 the first Quarterly meeting was held with Rev. William Connely in charge. The first church
organized in Brokenstraw Township was the Methodist. Rev Connely was the first preacher. The itenerant Preacher'salary was $80 a year with traveling expenses. Another $80 was allowed for his wife and $16 for each of his children. Of his
children, Mary who married Arthur Robinson had no children. Isaac R. Connely never married. Rebecca also does not seem to be married.
    • Told his grandson stories of how he used to sell soldiers tin cups on the streets of Philadelphia during the Revolutionary War for 25 cents each.
    • William Connely came to Franklin in 1804, and was among the earliest settlers. In 1819 and 1820 he represented the district in the legislature, served as a justice of the peace for many years, and was appointed by Gov. Curtin an associate
judge. My first recollection of him dates back to 1824 or 1825 (I will not be positive as to the exact date), when I heard him preach to a little congregation at Tubbs Run Flats, about a mile above Tionesta, on the west side of the Allegheny
river. He possessed two of the requisites of a public speaker - self-reliance and cheek. I do not use this last word in its offensive sense. For every preacher that I have heard deliver a better Methodist sermon than he preached that day, I
have heard a dozen that did not acquit themselves as well. He seemed to possess the entire confidence of his hearers, particularly the female portion of them_ He was an admirable judge of human nature, and knew that it was good strategy to
secure the good-will of the ladies.
    • Rev. William Connelly, as you knew,
    • lived at Franklin and was a very eloquent pioneer Methodist

    • Vance, which we read at last year's reunion which will bear

    • he was a very old man but a very interesting talker; he
    • held the attention of the whole company an hour at a time
    • with reminiscences of early experiences as a Methodist
    • preacher. W^e learn that he died at the home of his grand
    • daughter, Mrs. John S. McCalmont, at Franklin in 1872,
