After the death of her husband Alexander in 1871, it is thought that she moved in with her brother Robert as he lived nereby. It is thought she may of become governess to Roberts childeren, she was extreamly close to Roberts daughter Ellen, we know this from letters Elizabeth wrote to Ellen between 1880-1886. As a children grew John Lindsay 17 & Arthur Percy 16, Elizabeth decided to join her brother Charles , a bachelor at Walwa Creek, where she took over the running of the household, and where the family became important members of the community . In August 1874 after the death of her brother Richards wife Hannah, she took the baby and the two youngest boys just two and four, back to Walwa where she reared them for several years.Later the children returned home 1878 to there father and his new wife.
