    Notes
    • Richard Allender is on the censuses for 1790, 1800, 1810, and 1820 in the household of his parents. Census records for 1840, 1850, 1860, and 1870 for Columbiana, Ohio appear to continue the fit for him and his family. This Richard has the same occupation, wagon maker, as John McCoy, his supposed brother, and he has named a daughter Juliana, the same name as his supposed sister, and has named a son James, a name that seems to have significance to John McCoy (he also named a son James) and to others in the family of Richard (b. 1867), i.e. his supposed aunt Averilla, named a son James.
It sems that with this Richard and his family there are enough similarities to justify a match to the name noted in the Bible record on file at the Fairfield Public Library (Iowa) of Richard Allender born 24 Dec 1799.
On the 1840 Census Richard is shown living with his wife (her name is not known) and two daughters under 5, Sarah and Isabella, and a female age 70-80. This could be the mother of his wife, but could not be the mother of Richard (b. 1799) --Sarah Corbin Allender (b. 1776) passed away in 1832.
Richard's age, given as 30 in the 1850 Census, is off by about 20 years, but that has to be an error and is probably meant to be 50. His name is transcribed as Alender on the Census for 1860, and indexed as Allenden on the 1870 census. His daughter, Isabella, is shown only on the 1840, 1850 and 1860 records, and his son James is not shown on Census indexes after 1860 either, but the name James Allender does appear in the list of Ohio U.S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865.
