The tombstone of Nancy, wife of Jacob Gross, states that her maiden name was Allender and that she was born on Dec. 24, 1799 and died on Dec 10, 1880. No baptismal record or other proof of her parentage has been found; but she must have been the daughter of Joseph Allender (1) and his wife Maria Nagel and probably was born in Upper Saucon Twp. Her husband was born on Nov. 13, 1801 and died on Nov. 26, 1879. The U. S. Census records for 1860 and 1870 show that he was a laborer living in Allentown. 61 21. Jonas Allender, 1831-1905
There has been found no baptismal record of the parentage of Jonas, son of Jacob Allender (6) and wife Anna Maria. However, his obituary in the Allentown Morning Call of Jan. 2, 1906 mentions his brothers Valentine and Francis, who are shown by the U.S. Census of 1850 to be sons of Jacob Allender.
Jacob Allender was born on Jan. 27, 1831, probably in North Whitehall Twp. He became a blacksmith, and evidently left home as a youth to be come an apprentice since he was not listed with his father's family by the Census of 1850.
On Nov. 26, 1854 Jonas Allender and Sarah Ann Reinbold were married. She was born on Feb. 15, 1837 in Salisbury Twp., the daughter of Solomon Reinbold (12/17/1808-4/7/1896) and his first wife, Elizabeth Jacoby (8/10/1812-2/14/1867). In 1862 Jonas and Sarah Ann Allender were living in Salisbury Twp., as their son Charles F. was born there. By 1870 they had moved to Allentown, where they lived the rest of his life. He died there on Dec 31, 1905 and was buried in the Fairview Cemetery. His wife afterwards lived with their daughter Carrie and died at her home on Oct. 23, 1915. She was buried beside her husband and their three infant children. They had the children and descendants and shown by Tablle III.
In person, Jonas Allender was a tall, slender man with light brown hair and blue eyes. He wore a full beard and mustache which became gray when he was about 55 years of age. He spoke both Pennsylvania German and English, and was of Evangelical faith and was inactive in politics. Of a cheerful disposition, he was unusually kind to others and has been characterized as a cheerful giver and helper. He left no will, and there was no administration of an estate.
Sarah Ann Reinbold, wife of Jonas Allender, was only about five feet in height and of slender build. She had brown eyes and was left handed. Her temperament was in strong contrast to her husband. Although not talkative, she was aggressive and intent on dominating in all situations. Sometimes this was accomplished by temper and sometimes by calculated persistence.
Pictures of Jonas and Sarah Ann Allender taken early in their marriage and in their later years are extent. --Rinkenbach, p. 16-17.

95 5. Elizabeth Allender Xander, 1801/2-
Elizabeth Allender, third wife of John Xander of South Whitehall Twp., Lehigh County, probably was born in Upper Saucon Twp. in 1801or 1802. Another son, William, was born on July 9, 1832 and baptized at the same place [19. Pa. Archives; Series 6, Vol. 6, p. 124].
Jacob Allender evidently was a tenant farmer, as no record has been found that he owned a farm at any time during his life. By 1850 he was a resident of Salisbury Twp., where he had a farm in the vicinity of what was then known as East Penn Junction. By 1870 he had moved into adjacent Allentown and lived at 126 Second Street. He died there on Nov. 24, 1877 and was buried in the Union and West End Cemetery beside his wife, who had died on Dec. 25, 1871. The death of Jacob Allender was noted in the "Friedens-Bote" of Allentown, but no obituary of his wife has been found. They had seven children shown by Table I [descendants].
In person, Jacob Allender was of medium height and weight. No picture of him is extant. He was a noted runner and jumper, as he is said to have raced ponies and been able to leap over obstacles higher than himself. He was something of a fisherman, as a newspaper item in 1875 mentions him taking two large pickerel from the Lehigh river. An unusual characteristic was his fear of darkness, as a result he rarely ventured outdoors at night.
A photograph of Anna Maria, wife of Jacob Allender, is in existence and shows her to have been of medium height and weight and stockily built. Repeated efforts to discover her maiden name and parentage have been unsccessful. -- Rinkenbach, p. 8-9.

98 7. Hannah Allender Butz, 1807/8-1869.
It is recorded that Hana, daughter of Joseph Ellender (1) and wife Maria was born on Mar 11, 1807 [20. Records of St. Paul's ("Blue") Church, Upper Saucon Twp.]; but the inscription on her tombstone states that she was born on Mar 8, 1808. Apparently she was born in Upper Saucon Twp. She was confirmed in the Reformed Church on Nov. 7, 1824 [21. Reformed Records of Jerusalem Lutheran and Reformed Church ("Western Salisbury") Salisbury Twp.].
On Sept. 2, 1832 Hannah Allender and Peter H. Butz were married by Rev. Dubbs according to the Friedens-Bote of Sept. 6, 1832. Peter H. Butz was born on Sept. 11, 1811 and was a carpenter by trade. The U.S. Census records for 1850, 1860, and 1870 show that he lived in Allentown and had the children shown by Table I [converted]. These children also are listed in the obituary of the son Peter A. Butz (28).
Hannah A. Butz died on Feb. 17, 1869 and was buried in the Union and West End Cemetery in Allentown. Her husband died on Jan. 23, 1874 and was buried beside his wife. Their daughter Rebecca (27), son Allen M. (33) and some grandchildren are buried on the same plot.
Neither Peter nor Hannah Butz left a will; and no other record of an estate has been found. --Rinkenbach, p. 9.

99 8. Henry Allender, 1814-1886
This son of Joseph (1) and wife Maria was born in either Upper Saucon or Salisbury Twp. on Sept. 16, 1814; but no record of his birth or baptism has been found.
The first record of Henry Allender is the U.S. Census of 1850, which shows that he, his wife and three children lived in Allentown and that he was a laborer. They have not been found in the 1860 Census records, but those for 1870 show him, wife, and three children as residents of near by Hanover Twp. His wife was Sallie A. Butz, who was born on Oct. 5, 1822 according to her tombstone and in Whitehall Twp. according to the record of her death in the Allentown courthouse. Her maiden name is established by the obituary of her daughter Emma H. (40).
Henry Allender died on Aug 12, 1886 and his wife died on Sept. 9, 1903. They are buried beside each other in the Union and West End Cemetery in Allentown. The tombstone gives the dates of their births and deaths. No obituary has been found for either; and neither left a will. The names of the children are established by the census records and the obituaries of some of the children. --Rinkenbach, p. 10.

100 9. George Allender, 1815/16-
This son of Joseph Allender (1) and wife Maria was born in 1815 or 1816, as indicated by the census records; but no baptismal record has been found.
As shown by his private records, on Oct. 6, 1939, the Rev. J. S. Dubbs married George Allender and Polly Sterner of Whitehall Twp. She died in 1844 or 1845, for on July 4, 1846, the Rev. Dubbs, married George Ellereander [sic] of North Whitehall Twp. and Marie Bauscher of Hamburg, Pa. [22. Collections of the Genealogical Society of Pa.; Vol. Be/Ca.]
By 1850, as shown by the Census records of that year George, and three children were living in South Whitehall Twp. The age of the wife is given as 30 years. No record of the family has been found in 1860 recods. According to the 1870 Census, George Allender, laborer, aged 54 and children Tividia, George, Jane, and Llewelyn were living in Hanover Twp. As his wife Maria is not listed, it is presumed that she had died prior to 1870. It has been stated that both George and Maria Allender died while the youngest son, Llewellyn, was still a child; so he evidently died between 1870 and 1875.
No further record of George has been found, nor has a tombstone for him or either of his wives. His has been the most difficult of the family to trace; and it is probable that the information given herein is not complete. -- Rinkenbach, p.10-11.
